Sutton King is currently a senior studying furniture design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been displayed in the Gulfstream Center for Design and he has received an IDA Honorable Mention Award throughout his time at SCAD.
He is a furniture designer that lives between the logical and the conceptual. Being raised by an engineer and a designer, he’s split into both ways of thinking. His hometown of Fredericksburg, Texas, the rolling hills that surround it, and its rich history of German craftsmen are some of his main inspirations. He also has an appreciation for Danish designers like Hans Wegner, who value simplicity, craft, and the innate beauty of raw materials.
His love for furniture design stems from a love for making and the processes that encompass it. Taking a sketch into CAD then turning those drawings into physical objects is where Sutton excels. He appreciates the art of learning how to use new tools, making jigs, and slowly putting the pieces into place.
Furniture is a craft in which Sutton will always be a student, eager to learn as much as possible. He is grateful and excited for every opportunity to do so.
